On Nov 5th, Firestone High School Swimmers and Divers participated in the 23rd Annual Kids Helping Kids Swim Marathon. Thirty-four swimmers and divers kept all six lanes of the pool at the Firestone Natatorium occupied as they swam for 12 hours from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm for sponsored laps or flat-fee collections as part of their efforts to complete a new five year pledge to Akron Children’s Hospital. These Firestone swimmers and divers are working toward fulfilling their pledge to help fund the brand new in-patience rehabilitation center at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Juniors Mark Belanger, Katie Miller and John Scantling each swam 9 out of the 12 hours for a combined total of over 50 miles. With an extraordinary effort, all of the swimmer and divers, when not swimming in the pool, participated in the collections efforts held at Acme and West Point Market.
The senior class will proudly be presenting Akron Children’s Hospital our donation of over $8,400 for our pledge. Donations are still being accepted at www.firestoneswim.com.
