At 6:00 on Saturday, November 1, 2014, the Firestone High School Swim & Diving Team will kick-off its Twenty-Sixth Annual “Kids Helping Kids” Marathon Swim. The Marathon is a twelve hour event and there will be a swimmer or diver in six lanes of the Firestone High School pool for the duration of the Marathon. The Marathon is an important part of the proud tradition of the Firestone program and the proceeds are shared by the swim/diving teams and Akron Children’s Hospital.
The Marathon has always been a lot fun and builds team unity at the start of the swim & diving season. Even more important, the “Kids Helping Kids” campaign has provided over $153,000 to Akron Children’s Hospital since the Marathon was started twenty-six years ago. The Firestone team’s fundraising efforts for the 2014 Marathon will support the first year of a five-year $20,000 pledge to support a pre-op waiting room in the new ambulatory care surgery center at Akron Children’s Hospital.
During October, the Firestone boys and girls will begin to solicit donations from friends, neighbors, families, local businesses and alumni, to support the Marathon on November 1st, 2014. Each swimmer has a goal of raising $200.
If you would like to make a donation to help the team fulfill their goal, you can make a check out to the Firestone High Aquatic Association (FHAA). For online donations via credit card, please use the PayPal “donate” button on the web-site home page at www.firestoneswimming.org. All donations are tax deductible and no amount it too small. Please consider supporting this worthwhile cause.
