Aloha and Happy New Year – A reminder to all that the annual FHAA Silent Auction is coming up on Saturday, Jan 28. We need all families to participate, invite friends and family for a fun night out with dinner, open bar and exciting auction items. Tickets are $65 per person for a raffle ticket with a chance to win $1500, dinner and open bar. An additional $20 will get dinner and open bar for spouse or friend.

Please solicit auction items from businesses OR provide an imaginative item on your own. The Silent Auction is FHAA’s largest fundraiser that provides the swim program with bus travel, food and swimsuits.

Just a quick reminder that there will be a meeting for the Auction on January 4th at 7pm at the Vegh’s house. Renee has noted that it is 30 days to Aloha Akron! We still need help with soliciting, donations, ticket sales, and more. See you at the meeting.

For the Christmas Invitational:

Prelims begin at 8:00 and Finals begin at 6:00. Admission is $6 for the Prelims and $2 for the Finals.

The Auction is coming up and we are looking for donations from local merchants for the event. We have a form letter for you to give out. Just sign your name at the bottom as the “Auction/Raffle Committee Member” and the letter is ready to go. Star Stroud is the contact person for the auction if you have questions.

Firestone v. Solon. First meet of the season.

Firestone swimmers performed well under difficult conditions as they faced the much larger Solon team on Friday evening. The combined team scores were Solon 215 and Firestone 153 in 24 events. The girls won the day with Firestone 104 and Solon 81. Carly Chelovitz was Girls’ Swimmer of the Meet. Among the noteworthy performances was freshman Alexis Lee in her first meet for Firestone. The boys faced a tough challenge as Solon’s team was far larger than Firestone’s. They came out with 49 overall to Solon’s 134. Boys’ Swimmer of the Meet, Mark Belanger, won the Boys’ 200 Freestyle and the Boys’ 100 Backstroke.

Marathon a great success!

Arlene Miller announced that the 2011 Marathon was a great financial success (in addition to being fun!). Even though we were down by two swimmers/divers in head count, we surpassed last year’s total collections! This is a fantastic showing by our Firestone High School Swimming & Diving Team for such an inportant cause. In May, our seniors will be presenting a check to Akron Children’s Hospital for more than $8,400 towards our $20,000 pledge for equipment for ACH’s new in-house rehabilitation center. Thanks to everyone for your food donations, transportation, but most of all, your time and continued support for the Firestone High School Swimming & Diving Team!
